My Care Partner ~ In-Home Care The Centers Adult Day Services The Margaret T. Morris Center Online Training & Education Program |
Adult Care Services offers a two part program providing Certified Caregivers and Managers Certification at the Directed Care assisted living level. The training consists of online courses followed by two days of hands on practical training. The program includes Supervisory Care, Directed Care, Personal Care, Medications and the Managers course.
The Supervisory Care class prepares the future Caregiver to understand Legal Issues, Advanced Care Directives, Resident Rights, and the Rules and Regulations as put forth by the Arizona Department of Health Services concerning all three levels of assisted living.
The Personal Care class teaches the future Caregiver the practical aspects of caregiving. This class will include information on how to provide hands-on physical care of assisted living residents in conjunction with learning the effects of the aging process.
The Directed Care class enables the future Caregiver to learn about various dementias, communication techniques, behaviors, and strategies to helping residents. Utilization of peer work, class presentations, small group projects, role-play, and other interactive modes will be the methods of instruction.
The Medications class prepares the future Caregiver to administer safely medications and treatments to residents in all levels of assisted living with an emphasis on AZ Department of Health Services Rules and Regulations.
The Manager's Class will prepare a current certified Caregiver to become a Manager of an assisted living home or facility. The class reviews all of the Rules and Regulations required by the Arizona Department of Health Services, the Arizona Board of Examiners of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers and the day-to-day operational tasks for being a Licensed Manager. At the end of this course, the student will have met the requirements for sitting for the assisted living Manager exam. Prerequisites: Any person wanting to take the Managers Class must show proof of all four Caregiver certificates.
A two-day skills class is required in conjunction with the coursework from the supervisory, personal, directed care and medication classes. This two-day practicum will include required videos and hands-on skills training. Each student must complete the two-day practicum in order to achieve certification.
The Arizona Department of Health Services and the Arizona Post Secondary Board of Education license this program.
